Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) in Education: An informative educational resource for professionals looking to raise awareness of how to support children and young people in educational settings. Course Objectives

This CPD online learning course will help teachers and support staff identify when a child may have SCLN and what specific actions they need to take. 

Speech, Language and Communication Needs (or SLCN) is the term that describes the extensive range of needs related to all aspects of communication.  This covers things like understanding what others are saying, the formation of sounds, words and sentences, as well as expression of emotions, both socially and during learning.

Participants will learn that SLCN needs can have a huge impact on children and young people.  It can have far-reaching consequences across the whole spectrum of their future development as it inhibits how and when they communicate, their understanding of what is required of them, as well as limiting their potential.

This CPD course will introduce participants to how a child is assessed, relevant support mechanisms that can be called on, as well as to how to support children making the transition to secondary school.

At the end of this CPD course, participants will have a better understanding of SLCN and how to support children with these needs in the classroom.
