Introduction to Safeguarding is a short course designed to introduce the essential safeguarding practices required in educational settings. It equips education professionals with the foundational knowledge they need to ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people, while providing a clear understanding of their legal obligations under current safeguarding legislation.

Course Aims

This essential CPD training aims to ensure educators are up-to-date and understand current statutory guidance included in the Department of Education's 'Working Together to Safeguard Children' and ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ legislation. 

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand why safeguarding measures are needed
  • Explore the signs and symptoms of safeguarding concerns, abuse and neglect. This includes mental health issues
  • Understand the importance of safeguarding and its relevance in an educational setting
  • Learn effective communication techniques when dealing with safeguarding disclosures and/or intervention
  • Gain insights into relevant legislation, policies, and guidelines related to safeguarding and child protection
  • Recognise the impact of safeguarding on the emotional and mental wellbeing of all those affected by it
  • Identify different types of abuse (i.e. physical, emotional, etc), the signs of potential abuse, and the appropriate actions to take when concerns arise
  • Increase your confidence when handling safeguarding issues across your environment
  • Be aware of the term ‘multi-agency working’ and know how these agencies work together in child protection.
